Once all the cladding panels were fixed in place it was time for fibreglassing. The shutter panels are made from plywood but the other panels are hardboard which required “roughing up” with course glass-paper to ensure a good bond.
My neighbour Peter is a genius with fibreglass and gave up a whole day to help me with this stage. Firstly he covered all the joints with a “bandage” tape, which was rolled in with resin. Then the whole surface got a good coat of resin followed by the glass mat then more resin.
Reaching all the areas required ladders and long rollers. You have to work quickly too; fibreglassing is quite an art form and a few extra pairs of hands are recommended! You shouldn’t do this in a confined space either - very smelly, sticky and not good for your skin.
