The dome wheels were fixed to the wall ring. I bought a set of eight 100 mm heavy duty casters with rubber tyres for the main wheels. You can see a pair of ladders on top of the wall so the dome could slide over the wheels before being lowered.
There is a mid-height scaffold frame as well. This is so the lifters could have a rest as well as change position to raise it to shoulder height - preparation is everything!
The dome was lifted onto two long ladders. It was easier on the hands to lift using the ladders. Four adults could comfortably lift it, but a much larger team was required for the various manoeuvres!
I am really grateful to have so many good friends willing to help; It was a very exciting occasion though; reminiscent of an American “barn-raising”!
